Arrival

Morning supervision on the playground begins 10 minutes before the first bell in the morning. Before that time, there is no adult supervision available.  Only children who are enrolled in the Albuquerque Parks and Recreation before school program may be on campus earlier than 10 minutes before the first bell.   Students may congregate only on the playground before school. Students may not gather in the patio area or in the hallway.

Dismissal

After school, children should leave the campus as soon as possible. There is no after school supervision by Montezuma employees. Exceptions include enrollment in:

  • Albuquerque Parks and Recreation program
  • After School Program
  • Other school approved activity

All children must be picked up promptly at the conclusion of any after school program.

Children must remain on the Montezuma campus during the school day unless they are signed out by an approved adult. When picking up a child, parents or other approved adults must go to the office and present their ID before going to classroom or playground.

Students should wait for their parents in the office if they have not been picked up by 10 minutes after dismissal.

In cases where children are not picked up after school and phone contact cannot be made with parents, the school may exercise its option to contact the APS Police. If the problem continues and the family cannot be contacted, the student may be considered an abandoned child and the police will be notified. Such children may be subject to transportation to a state shelter for abandoned children.

  • Parents must not leave their children on a school campus any more than fifteen (15) minutes prior to or fifteen (15) minutes after the school day.
  • School grounds are not supervised except during the school day.
  • If extenuating circumstances prevent a family from picking up a student on time, the school must be notified within this same fifteen (15) minute period.
  • If students are repeatedly left on campus outside of the school day hours, an administrator will attempt to contact the family to discuss the problem.
  • If the problem continues, the student may be considered abandoned and the police will be notified. Such children may be subject to transportation to a state shelter for abandoned children.

Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures

The purpose of the loading zone is to establish as large an area where parents can quickly drop off or pick up their children in the safest way possible. NEVER encourage your child/ren to dart across the street to get into your car or to hide and wait for you somewhere else. A duty person is there to help direct traffic and keep people safe. Please follow his/her directions and guidance. Please follow the guidelines below:

INDIAN SCHOOL ROAD AREA-Front parking lot

  • Use only the designated loading zones for student pick up and drop off. This area is clearly marked and the lane is painted GREEN.
  • NEVER park and leave your car unattended in the loading zone or fire zone.
  • As cars in front pull out, please move your car forward toward the front of the loading zone so other cars can pull in behind.
  • Do not park or stop in the crosswalk and please-watch crossing guard!
  • Please do not run over traffic cones-they are there for safety.
  • This is a phone free zone for drivers. Hands free devices only.
  • Please be patient, it is about everyone’s safety.

RICHMOND DRIVE AREA

  • NEVER encourage your child/ren to dart across the street to get into your car.
  • Do NOT park or stop in the crosswalk.

BUS LOADING ZONE

  • APS policy does not allow parents to use the bus loading zone to pickup or drop off students.
  • Do NOT park or wait for your child/ren in this area.

If you need to come into the school for some reason, please use the parking lot on Indian School Road.

Traffic Crossing Guards

A uniformed traffic guard is posted at Indian School Rd. and Bryn Mawr at 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for the safety of our students.  Indian School Rd. at Bryn Mawr, although there is a stop light, is a dangerous crossing!  Continually stress to your children to cross this busy street only when the crossing guard is available to help.

Tardies & Early Leave

It is very important for your child to arrive on time each day.  Unnecessary tardiness and/or early leaves are disruptive to your child’s education, as well as to the rest of the class.  If a child arrives late, please sign them in at the office.  Students who are tardy for class receive consequences as designated by the teacher.

Picking up students before the end of the school day interrupts the instruction for the entire class.  Please avoid picking your child up between 3:00 and 3:38.  In order to avoid interruptions in the education program, we ask your cooperation in picking up your child during school hours.  Report to the office, present your ID and sign out your child.  We will contact your child’s teacher who will send your child to the office.  Please remember parents or guardians should be the ones picking up a child.  If you need someone else to pick up your child, that person must be over 18 and listed on your child’s pickup card.  We will not allow children to go home unattended during the day for any reason.
